Over the years while we were identifying deserving children for the CHINAR home, we came across many children who were living with their biological or extended families and facing severe economic hardship. For various reasons the guardians of these children were reluctant to part with them and we were not able to provide any remote assistance because of our limited infrastructure.
The purpose of the Remote Child Sponsorship Program is to assist such orphans and vulnerable children in their existing homes. Our support will meet not only their basic survival needs but also their educational, health and psychosocial needs. This will only be done if their current living environment is deemed safe.
In early 2010 CHINAR documented the requirements, guidelines and delivery strategy for RSCP and later in the year the RSCP pilot was started with the enrollment of 5 children. We have since streamlined the program and are ready to implement it in 4 regions of the valley. An attempt will be made to expand the program to the Jammu and Ladakh regions as well.
Highlights of the Program:
Currently enrolled children - 15 (July’ 2011)
100 children by the end of calendar year 2011
Funds to be generated through grants, individual contributions in Kashmir and USA
