A
group of students at UC Berkeley established a chapter of CHINAR
on campus in the spring of 2006. The purpose is serve and expand
the interests of CHINAR . This dynamic group has been working
to bring publicity to CHINAR and to find new avenues by which
to highlight awareness of child related abuses, poverty, and violence.
The
group has organized activities and forums that deal with themes
such as child exploitation, trafficking, child labor, manipulation,
drugs, and global poverty. CHINAR has received praise from Cal
(Berkeley) students, faculty, and local community members for
highlighting such themes in under represented areas such as Nepal,
Kashmir, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. The chapter's last activity
for the semester is titled Books for Barrios which will organize
a collaborative campus effort to send aid to children in the Philippines
